Two-factor authentication is the safest way to pay
What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication (also called two-step verification) is a security system used when shopping online. When you pay online, you must therefore verify that you are the cardholder. This is done using two of the following three factors:
- Something you know (e.g. a password)
- Something you have (e.g. your mobile phone)
- Something you are (e.g. fingerprint or facial recognition)
In Denmark, the most common forms of two-factor authentication for online payments are MitID and SMS + code.
Two methods of two-factor authentication
Method 1 is a security method where you choose to confirm the purchase via MitID.
Here you need:
- Your card number
- MitID (app, code card or key display)
- and your mobile phone
Method 2 is a security method where you choose to confirm the purchase via an SMS code sent to you. You receive an SMS with a code that you must enter together with your password. If you have never used this method before, you must register your mobile number and choose a password for your payment card.
You do that here:
Step #1 Pay with your card as you know it
Enter the one-time code together with your own password and press "confirm".

Step #4 Your payment is hereby completed
